Egypt 1346 B.C.: For as long as she can remember, little Amunet has been able to communicate with animals, but her life takes a turn when the priests of Amun, the most powerful clergy in Ancient Egypt, discover her prodigious gift. Convinced that she is the piece they need for their political puzzle, they take her to the temple of Ipet Sut, where she will begin her training as a heka or sorceress in the service of their god.
Egypt, 1799: When Napoleon Bonaparte's army takes control of Cairo, the band of thieves to which Shaheen belongs is tasked with raiding an ancient tomb in the Valley of the Nobles. What Shaheen doesn't know is that in that tomb he will encounter something far more disturbing: the spirit of Amunet herself, trapped for over three thousand years... and thirsting for revenge.
From that moment on, their existences intertwine in the power game that Bonaparte intends to drag the whole world into, replacing the blue of the Nile and the gold of the desert with the red spilled in the streets of revolutionary Paris.
