"Could you love me?" he whispered.
His question stole my breath, and my lungs burned in the silence that followed. I wanted to answer, to whisper yes across the space between us, but I was afraid.
All her life, Gesela's village, Anta, has been cursed. And it hasn't suffered just one curse, but one after another. When this happens, one of its inhabitants must break it, always with devastating consequences. After the well runs dry, it's Gesela's turn to save the village by killing the toad that lives inside. The problem is... The toad is not a toad! It's an elven prince who, in turn, is also cursed, and after his death, his brothers cry out for revenge.
As punishment, they send Gesela to live with the seventh brother, whom they call "the beast." Just when she thought her destiny was to become the prisoner of a horrible monster, it turns out that the beast is a truly handsome being and, instead of locking her in a cell, he offers her a deal: if she finds out his true name, she can leave.
Gesela accepts, but it's not as simple as it might seem, because she must speak his name with love so that he too can be free.
