Anne Prescott has always been a disbeliever in love. That's why, when her best friend ends up heartbroken a few months before her wedding, Anne can't help but curse the sugary idea we've been sold of a "happily ever after" that, in reality, doesn't exist.

But her outburst has consequences, materializing in the visit of Miss Fire, a woman clad in a red suit with a tongue sharper than her stilettos, who claims to be Cupid herself. Of course, Anne thinks the poor woman has lost her mind, but soon after, a series of suitors begin parading through her life, all of whom could be the perfect man "if she just put a little effort into it."
