The gods love to toy with us, mere mortals. And, every hundred years, we let them…

I’ve never had the favor of the gods. Quite the opposite, thanks to Zeus.

I’m cursed and try to go unnoticed in the Thieves Guild, hoping that the capricious beings who rule from Olympus won’t notice me. Not an easy feat, because Zeus is the patron of my city, San Francisco. But somehow, I survive. Until one night, I cross paths with a different god.

The worst god. Hades.

For the first time, the god of the Underworld is going to participate in the Crucible, a competition the gods organize to decide who will be the new king to sit on the throne of Olympus. But instead of fighting themselves, the gods choose mortals to compete on their behalf.

But why did Hades choose me, a nobody who also carries a curse, as his champion? And why does my heart flutter every time he says I’m his?

I don’t know if I’m a pawn, bait, or something entirely different to this dark and tempting god. How can I know when his mind holds more secrets than there are stars in the sky?

Hades plays by his own rules… and Death always wins.
