The paths of Axlin and Xein cross again, but both seem further apart than ever. She works in the library and continues to gather information to complete her bestiary, while investigating what appears to be an abnormal presence of monsters within the Citadel walls. On the other hand, by trying to help her friend Dex with a personal problem, she will find herself embroiled in a conflict involving several aristocratic families from the old city.
Xein, for his part, has become one of the Guardians who protect the inhabitants of the Citadel from the monsters that stalk them. His loyalty to the Guard forces him to keep his new knowledge hidden from the rest of the people and especially from Axlin, which will build a new wall between the two.
All of this will cause conflicts between them each time they meet again, but it will also spark flames that will burn more brightly because of their shared past.
